Kids can make a difference
With elections coming up, we've been talking about how kids can make a difference to the world around them.
While they may not be able to vote, kids can still make big changes in the world.
The videos below show children who started making big changes in their world when they were 7, 8 and 9 years old - the same age as the students in our class!

Changing our world
We have been learning to take action to change the world around us.
There are 4 main ways we can do this:
- Volunteering
- Raising money
- Talking to/persuading decision makers
- Spreading awareness

We played this game to help us learn about actions we can take. It's a great game to learn about making changes.
icivics.com has loads of fantastic games and activities to help children learn about how government works. It is non-partisan, but it is rather american focused, so not all games are relevant to New Zealand. Never-the-less, there is lots of useful information to take out of it, like the role of a judiciary, how debates work, how to write a law, international relations, what representatives do and much more.
I really recommend the site, and the games. They do a great job of simply explaining a complex process.
